A Devon seaside town is seeing new beginnings for its last arcade following the sudden closure of Sunspot Amusements in Ilfracombe last week. The arcade, a cherished spot for both locals and holidaymakers, has been a key part of the town’s nostalgic charm.
Located on Wilder Road, Sunspot Amusements was listed as a family entertainment centre on the Merkur website, with regular opening hours of noon to 6 pm, seven days a week. However, a notice posted on its door recently confirmed that "this venue has closed."
The future of the arcade has now become clearer, as the Case family has taken over the lease, breathing new life into the venue. While the exact details of their plans are yet to be unveiled, the community is hopeful that the Case family will revitalize the space and continue the long-standing tradition of entertainment in Ilfracombe.
Merkur Casino UK, which previously operated the arcade, is led by Mark Schertle and Egemen Coskun. It became part of the Gauselmann Group following its acquisition in 2012.
