Jukebox Licensing Changes are in the Pipeline

PPL PRS Ltd, the joint venture between PPL and PRS for Music, is revising its jukebox licensing approach. The company has applied to the Copyright Tribunal to modify the licensing framework, aiming to license venues directly rather than through jukebox operators.

Initially, PPL PRS issued licenses to jukebox operators only until December 31, 2024, instead of the standard full-year term, anticipating a swift transition. However, the process is taking longer than expected. To ensure uninterrupted service, PPL PRS has extended the current licenses for an additional six months, now valid through June 30, 2025. All jukebox operators are being notified of this extension.

This interim measure provides stability for operators while PPL PRS finalizes the new licensing structure. Further updates will be communicated as the situation progresses.
