Genting UK Plans to Revive London’s Trocadero with New Casino & Leisure Complex

Historic West End venue Trocadero is set for an exciting new chapter. Genting UK has revealed plans to convert approximately 37,000 sq ft of currently vacant space in the Grade II-listed building on Coventry Street into a casino, restaurants, bars and entertainment facilities. The project aims to both preserve the venue’s rich heritage and breathe new life into a prominent part of the London entertainment scene.

    What’s Coming and When

The development is expected to open in October 2026.
Among the centrepieces is a 16,000 sq ft casino floor spanning the ground, first, and parts of the basement, alongside back-of-house facilities and support areas.
Complementary food and beverage (F&B) amenities will be spread over multiple levels: a restaurant along Coventry Street at ground level, a more formal dining space on the first floor, and additional bar / restaurant options in basement levels targeted at casino patrons.

    Design, Community & Heritage Considerations

Genting UK intends to respect the building’s history rather than replacing it entirely. The plans include a sustainable retrofit that preserves the architectural facade and heritage features, while upgrading interiors to fit modern leisure expectations. Signage, shopfronts, and public realm improvements along Coventry Street are part of the upgrade to enhance the quality and coherence of the venue’s appearance.

To support responsible operations, the proposal sets out governance plans including 24/7 CCTV coverage, door staff, and a casino management plan that aims to ensure safety, overall visitor experience, and respect for the surrounding community. The target demographic is 25+, with design elements intended to make the venue welcoming and inclusive.

    Economic & Regeneration Impact

If approved and successfully delivered, the project is expected to generate up to 350 new jobs in hospitality and related sectors. It’s being pitched not just as a casino but as a leisure anchor that could help regenerate this stretch of the West End, adding footfall and activity, especially in currently underused spaces.
