Merkur’s Northern Ireland Move: Oasis Retail Services Acquisition Signals Sector Consolidation

Gaming group Merkur Casino UK has completed the acquisition of Northern Ireland’s leading amusement-machine operator, Oasis Retail Services — marking both the first-time entry for Merkur into the Northern Irish market and a significant moment for the UK amusement sector.

Oasis Retail Services, based in Newtownabbey, operates 16 venues and manages several hundred machines across pubs, betting shops and entertainment venues.  The company has been a major player in the Northern Irish leisure landscape for decades, with roots extending back to the 1960s under the Oasis Leisure Group umbrella.

From Merkur’s perspective, the deal accelerates its UK-land-based growth strategy and gives it a foothold in a new regional market. According to a Merkur press release, the group said:

“We are delighted to welcome Oasis Retail Services into the Merkur family.”
