Technology, Compliance, and the Future of Gaming – Insights from SiGMA Europe

Last week at SiGMA Europe in Rome, CLMS Managing Director Simon Barff took part in a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring one of the most important topics shaping the gaming industry today:  how technology and innovation can balance the growing weight of compliance and technical standards.

The session, titled “Future of Slot Machines: Innovation and Trends Shaping the Industry,” brought together leading voices from across the sector. Simon was joined by Andrew Sackey of Aristocrat, offering the perspective of a global games developer, while Stephen Crystal of SCCG Management guided the discussion with sharp insight and practical expertise.

Together, the panel unpacked how game designers, regulators, and technology providers can work in harmony, rather than in tension, as compliance expectations continue to evolve. Simon highlighted the need for data-driven solutions and smarter system integrations that can reduce operator burden while maintaining transparency and accountability.

Andrew’s contributions provided a fascinating look at the global landscape, from differing market pressures to the regulatory complexity faced by multinational gaming suppliers. His reflections underscored how innovation and compliance must now move hand in hand if the industry is to continue progressing responsibly and sustainably.

Simon remarked that the discussion was not only insightful but also energising, providing a reminder of how collaboration across companies, jurisdictions, and technologies can unlock real progress. “Everyone who should have been there, was there,” he noted. “It was a fascinating exchange of views, and clearly there’s more work to be done on developing consistent guidelines around GDPR and data-driven compliance, but the conversation is moving in the right direction.”

Events like SiGMA play an essential role in driving that dialogue forward - providing a platform where policy, technology, and innovation can meet to shape the future of gaming.

A big thank you goes to Jason Frost and the entire SiGMA Europe team for the invitation, and to all the colleagues and partners from the industry who joined the event.

CLMS remains committed to supporting operators and manufacturers with the tools, data, and insight they need to navigate the challenges of compliance and deliver secure, sustainable innovation.
