The CLMS Golf Day once again delivered a winning combination of competitive play, industry camaraderie and charitable fundraising, with this year’s event raising an impressive £3,000 — set to be doubled to £6,000 thanks to Bacta’s support — for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Held in excellent weather conditions — with organisers noting that the “Irish Gods” were once again on side — the event saw a strong turnout from across the industry, with participants digging deep both on the course and in support of the day’s fundraising efforts.
A special mention was given to Lisa and Chris, who ensured the raffle ran smoothly and kept proceedings in check, helping to drive generous donations from attendees.
On the course, players were greeted with a layout in great condition, reflected in a series of strong performances throughout the field. The standout round came from Mike Clokie, who posted an outstanding gross 69, earning widespread recognition on the day.
Despite some added challenges — including newly introduced bunkers that caught out more than a few players — scoring remained high across the board.
David Newman emerged as the overall winner with an impressive 42 points, followed by Alan Hurt on 40 points and Mike Clokie in third place with 39 points.
In the additional categories, Mary Mellor took the Ladies’ title with 28 points, while nearest-the-pin honours went to Nick Burgess (6th hole) and Darrell Webb (12th hole). The Longest Drive on the 10th was claimed by Mike Clokie, rounding off a memorable day for the CLMS representative.
A fun highlight of the event, the “Pink Ball” challenge, saw only one team lose their ball — much to the amusement of the rest of the field.
With a final fundraising total expected to reach £6,000 following Bacta’s contribution, the event represents a significant boost for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, reinforcing the industry’s ongoing commitment to charitable causes.
Organisers Colm, Simon and the CLMS team thanked all participants for their support and generosity, and are already looking ahead to next year’s event — where David Newman will return to defend his title.
