This year marks 80 years since VE Day – the momentous occasion that signalled the end of World War II in Europe. To commemorate the music that lifted spirits during wartime, TouchTunes has launched a specially curated VE Day Anniversary Playlist, offering nostalgia, history, and celebration through its network of jukeboxes.
The 94-track playlist is packed with iconic wartime anthems and classic artists whose music defined an era. It includes:
• Flanagan & Allen – “Underneath The Arches”
A timeless song of camaraderie, inspired by the sight of homeless men sleeping under railway arches.
• Vera Lynn – “We’ll Meet Again”
Known as the “Forces’ Sweetheart,” Lynn’s hopeful anthem became symbolic of wartime resilience and the promise of reunion.
• The D-Day Darlings – “Dam Busters”
A modern tribute honouring the courage of RAF 617 Squadron.
• George Formby – “The Window Cleaner (When I’m Cleaning Windows)”
This cheeky and cheerful track was a favourite morale booster during the war.
• Glenn Miller & His Orchestra – “Chattanooga Choo Choo”
An upbeat swing number that became the first-ever gold record in history.
• The Squadronaires – “Milkman, Keep Those Bottles Quiet”
A lively tune reflecting everyday life amid blackouts and rationing.
In addition to providing a fitting tribute to a historic milestone, the playlist is designed to enhance customer engagement, dwell time, and jukebox revenue.
VE Day Facts:
• VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) was declared on May 8, 1945, marking the end of WWII in Europe.
• Over a million people celebrated in the streets of Britain, including crowds outside Buckingham Palace.
• Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” became one of the most enduring songs of the war, still remembered as a symbol of hope and unity.
The VE Day Anniversary Playlist will be available on all TouchTunes jukeboxes across the UK from April 23, with the exception of Profile 8. Venues that prefer not to run the playlist can opt out by switching to Profile 8.
TouchTunes invites all customers to mark this historic occasion by playing the songs that defined a generation.
