The latest polling released by Bacta last week sends a powerful message: the British public doesn’t just like amusement arcades – they see them as a vital part of our seaside heritage.
According to the Censuswide survey, eight in ten people believe arcades are central to the classic seaside experience. Among younger adults, the support is even stronger – with 86% of 25–34 year-olds, calling for the Government to do more to protect this industry.
And here’s the important part: if the youth are our future; and clearly they are, then we need to meet them where they are.
Understanding the Next Generation of Players
A significant portion of young people are moving away from cash, with around 72% of 16–24 year-olds regularly using mobile payment services. Many are even receiving their pocket money digitally. This trend can’t be ignored – particularly when this very same group is among the loudest voices in support of seaside arcades.
So how do we make arcades welcoming and functional for this next generation?
Our mission at E-Service is to help operators upgrade with purpose by enhancing the player journey while protecting their bottom line.
That’s why we’re focused on updating aged change machines with new tech like the E-Service 5000e, a smart unit that accepts cash, card, and contactless payments. It also includes built-in media screens, allowing venues to upload promotional content – whether it’s a new redemption game, a menu update, or even a shoutout to a high score – directly from a mobile phone.
We’re also helping operators streamline their change points to reduce queues and maintenance, while improving the overall experience for players of all ages.
Bridging Generations with Innovation
We can’t expect the charm of 2p pushers alone to keep players coming through the doors. Today’s amusement experience needs to be immersive, intuitive, and inclusive – for Gen Z and grandparents alike.
That’s why it’s essential that we, as suppliers and service partners, continue to evolve. Our work is about more than just spares and repairs, it’s also about future-proofing our industry.
Because when it comes to keeping arcades alive and thriving, there’s one thing we all agree on: we owe it to the next generation to get this right.
