The Amusement Network’s long-time columnist Joyce Todd found herself at the centre of national attention last week after being mentioned by the Prime Minister during his speech at the Labour Party Conference.
The PM recalled meeting Joyce during his time as an MP, describing their conversation as one that had shaped his views on immigration. However, Joyce quickly disputed his version of events — telling the Daily Mail that the Prime Minister’s memory of their encounter was inaccurate and making clear that she would “never vote for his party again.”
The exchange sparked widespread coverage across national news outlets and social media, with many highlighting Joyce’s typically forthright response. She also appear on GB news where she gave a comprehensive and robust interview.
Joyce, who has written The Amusement Network’s much-loved Chat column for manyl years, is known in the industry for her sharp wit, straight talking, and deep understanding - she has is also known for her community work in her hometown of Oldham and her charity work for Barnados.
While her comments may have ruffled feathers in Westminster, her trademark honesty will come as no surprise to readers in the amusements trade — where she has long been one of its most authentic and (sometimes) outspoken voices.
"I am very proud of Joyce for standing up for herself and what she believes in and for giving as good as she gets. I think it's pretty amazing that she dealt with the national media and sent the PM packing with her accurate version of events. Let that be a lesson to everyone - never mess with our Joyce," says Steph Norbury, publisher of The Amusement Network
