John Stergides Snr honoured with ICE Landmark Award in Barcelona

Electrocoin founder and director John Stergides Snr has been recognised with a Landmark Award at ICE Barcelona 2026, marking more than five decades of contribution to the international coin-op and amusement sector.

The Landmark Awards, presented annually at ICE, recognise individuals and organisations whose long-term impact has helped shape the global gambling and amusements industry. Stergides was honoured in recognition of Electrocoin’s forthcoming 50th anniversary in 2026, reflecting both his personal career and the company’s enduring presence across the UK and European markets.

“It was a proud moment for us. I think my father really appreciated going up to collect the award and being recognised for his contribution," said Electrocoin's sales and marketing manager John A Stergides.

And the man himself was equally delighted. “It was a great honour to receive the award,” Stergides Snr told Coinslot  during the record breaking ICE expo in Barcelona. “I was at the first ICE in the 1990s and have attended every one since. The show is the greatest industry event in the world, and to be recognised on the international stage at this level is very special. I’m thrilled to have been a part of the ICE evolution from the very outset and I think the British industry should be proud of its role in having the vision to launch and create the foundations of the world’s landmark show.”

Founded in the mid-1970s, Electrocoin has grown from a small UK operation into one of the best-known suppliers of amusement and gaming equipment, with Stergides playing a central role in introducing new product categories, supporting operators, and maintaining a consistent focus on commercial longevity.

Presenting the awards, ICE portfolio director Margaret Dunn said the Landmark Awards were created to recognise “the personalities and businesses setting new standards and inspiring others across the gaming sector”, adding that this year’s recipients reflected the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit underpinning the industry.

First introduced in 2019, the Awards celebrate key events and outstanding contributions made by organisations and individuals, spanning industry leadership, business development and community impact. Alongside Stergides, this year’s honourees included international manufacturers, legal specialists, trade associations and media figures, as well as a posthumous award recognising the contribution of Spanish gaming executive Miquel Suqué Mateu.

For the UK amusement sector in particular, Stergides’ recognition represents an acknowledgement of the key role played by long-established, family-led businesses. The award comes as Electrocoin prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in 2026, underlining its long-standing influence on the coin-operated and amusements market.
